10 London Pubs for Backpackers

There are four countries that make up the UK, so there are plenty of things to do and see. The top four on the list would be the capital cities of each country – London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast – but there are many other cities that are full of attractions and should definitely be on any tourist list.

London is the first for many people and London holidays are always exciting – even for those who live in the UK. There are just so many things to do and see in the largest city in the UK and constant events all year round. 2012 is one of the best years to go visiting, due to the Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee in the summer.

When it comes to London holidays, you will want to know what there is to do and see. For those interested in history, the Victoria and Albert Museum is somewhere to consider or you could take a walk around the London Dungeons if you want to get a little more gruesome. Madam Tussaud’s Waxwork Museum is also something worth putting on your list to get a snapshot with the “stars”.

Once you have finished your trip in London, you could consider the Cotswold Walk. There is no need to do it all but there are some great stops along the way, including Bristol and Stratford Upon Avon – the birthplace of William Shakespeare. The Cotswold Walk will give you the chance to explore nature and enjoy activities that you have never tried before.

For chocolate lovers, number three on the list would be Birmingham, which is the home of Cadbury World. You will get to see how the chocolate is made and even get free bars along the way. From Birmingham, there is excellent access into Wales and towards Cardiff. Cardiff is the home of the Doctor Who Experience, which is great for all those fans around the world. After that, it is worth taking a trip north to Manchester to visit the third largest city in England and the home to Manchester United.

From Manchester, why not take a trip slightly further north to Liverpool and find out about The Beatles and the fateful Titanic. Liverpool also offers the perfect platform to cross to Ireland and visit Belfast. There is much more about the Titanic there, which is where the ship was built and there are some great parks and museums with plenty for all the family to do.

From Belfast, number eight gives you the chance to take a trip back into England and across the Pennines to York. York is full of history dating back to the Vikings. The Jorvik Museum is one of the most visited attractions in the city, and there is also the York Dungeons and Ghost Walks on most nights.

York offers easy access north to Newcastle, which is a popular city for those who love anything! The Great North Museum and Victoria Tunnel offers some great history while no trip is finished without seeing the infamous Angel of the North.

Finally, from Newcastle, take a trip over the border and into Edinburgh, which is the capital of Scotland. Edinburgh is full of interesting activities, including the Edinburgh Castle which hosts the Military Tattoo every summer and the Edinburgh Dungeons, among many other great museums and parks to relax with the family.
