Greece has many faces – from party central islands, to historical ruins, and everything in-between and it’s just a short hop across Europe so makes a great choice for sun-starved Brits. There are lots of budget carriers who fly to Greece, including many of the most popular islands. For those wanting sun-drenched Greek holiday relaxation, Thassos is a great choice.
Dripping in sunshine and perfect for nature lovers, this chilled-out holiday retreat is the perfect destination for getting away from it all. Flights are either direct or indirect, and once in resort, it’s easy to get around with a good bus network, meaning plenty of scope to explore this beautiful island further. There’s plenty to see too, so remember that camera!
A chilled-out holiday deserves a chilled-out start, and I’ve found one way to do this is to pre-book airport parking. Travelling to the airport in your own car has many advantages, not to mention no need for expensive taxis, and the cost of this service is surprisingly low. I’ve stayed in Gatwick airport hotels with parking and used Stansted Airport parking in the past, and would certainly vouch for both.
Thassos is a great choice for families, with picturesque, sun-drenched beaches, and lots of water-sports to keep the little ones (and big kids) happy, especially at Astris beach. In fact, the island overall is a beach lover’s dream, especially on the west coast, where you’ll find more in the way of public facilities to make a day’s tanning much easier.
Limenas is the main town on the island and a great place to visit for those that love architecture and history, with an interesting archaeological museum to explore and Roman ruins.
Nature lovers aren’t forgotten either, with many hiking trails to follow, and I’d really recommend putting on your comfiest shoes and heading off for the day, because the scenery you will pass is simply stunning. Alternatively, one trip I always do is a boat-trip. Remember the sun-cream and hat though, as the sun out at sea is always more intense! However, for an acceleration of that tan, and some beautiful coastal scenery, this is a must do.
Night-time is equally as low key as the day times, but if you’re on a relaxation mission, this is exactly what the doctor ordered. You’ll find lots of restaurants and bars offering delicious Greek cuisine and international food too, but I’d really recommend you give some local dishes a try, especially the famous and delicious moussaka. The atmosphere is chilled-out and friendly, with locals more than happy to help make your holiday as memorable as possible.
Greece is a sun-worshipper’s dream, with many fantastic package holidays available. Cut costs further with airport hotels and parking deals, why not stay at the Crowne Plaza at Manchester Airport you’ll find your sunshine break gets off to the best possible start!
I can’t think of anything better than lying in the sun, without a care in the world, and Thassos offers a great backdrop to do just that.
