This is a guest post from Canopy & Stars, a collection of glamping places to stay and more.
You’re someone who appreciates the finer things in life. You’ve been to The Ritz a dozen times (who hasn’t?). All of the staff in Claridges know your name. But frankly, you’ve had enough of those fiddly little cucumber sandwiches and porters in top hats. That’s not to say you want to forsake all luxury – heavens no! You’re just looking for something a little…well…different.
Look no further. Here are three deliciously decadent but decidedly different escapes:
It is easy to detect the hand of the owner, Davina – an interior designer – in this superbly stylish boat on the canal in Regent’s Park. On The Water is a luxuriously decorated haven in the centre of London, where you can hide yourself away or dip a toe in the city as you please.
Take some cushions, blankets and your complimentary bottle of bubbly up to the deck and watch the stars in the water and listen to the occasional song of exotic birds from the nearby London Zoo drift across the water.
With a king sized bed, a roll top copper bath looking out over the canopy and a fully equipped kitchen, The Treehouse at Harptree Court is like nothing you’ve seen before. It’s very much a treehouse for grownups, and the perfect place for romantic weekend.
Lord it up like a Celtic chieftain in The Roundhouse at Bodrifty. The Roundhouse stands on the ruins of a real Iron Age settlement, though quite what our ancestors would have made of the Egyptian cotton sheets and duck-down duvets of the handmade four poster is not clear.
Sleep in ancient grandeur and wake to the sound of birdsong and the wind swishing through the trees. From Bodrifty, it’s only a spear’s throw to the Cornish coastline.
Set in the grounds of The Priory Bay Hotel, with its private beach and award-winning restaurant, this yurt is a far cry from the traditional dwellings of a nomad of the Mongolian Steppes. Artfully decorated, By the Beach is a sumptuous blend of comfort and creativity.
As well as having the run of 70 acres of mature woodland, lawns, gardens and the picturesque, sandy beach, guests have full use of the pool and tennis courts at the hotel. If that wasn’t enough of a treat, you can always book yourself in for a massage or treatment or, for those really special occasions, charter the yacht Infanta to take a cruise in the bay.
