Random Things That I Love About Britain

Since starting The Blighty Traveller, for whatever reason I have found myself looking a lot closer and deeper at my surroundings, I talk a lot more to people about what they think of Britain and after a recent debate with my girlfriend I have come to realise that I very much love some rather random things about this country.

Not one to keep my thoughts to myself, starting today I want to share with you just some of the things that I love about Britain.

Britain’s WW2 History

I am incredibly proud of what the brave British people did in WW2, whilst Europe crumbled under the might of the German Wehrmacht It was Britain and Britain alone that stood up to Hitler in the summer of 1940. If Britain had not defeated Germany in what was ‘The Battle Of Britain’, not only would Britain of been invaded, Hitler would of then been able to put all of his resources into the invasion of the Soviet Union and the Second World War may have ended very differently. We owe so much to that incredibly brave generation.

Humour

Ah the British humour, how did this nation become so dam funny?

The British may have a reputation for being a little reserved but boy do they know how to have a laugh, and mostly at themselves which is a wonderful trait to have.

They never take themselves to seriously and enjoy nothing more than tuning into what has to be the best comedy TV in the world. Britain has been churning out classics like Only Fools and Horses, Monty Python, One Foot In The Grave for decades and the same can be said for comedians with Britain being blessed with the likes of Lee Evans, Billy Connelly, Eddie Izzard and so many more at https://newstandupcomedy.com/.

Football

If there is one place you could go to see the British at their most passionate then it has to be at the Football. Every week millions of men, women and children head on out to support their favourite football team and what a wonderful site it is. Liverpool are famous for having the most passionate and loyal fans, even if you don’t like football, you cannot help but shed a tear when you watch and listen to 45,000 Liverpool fans singing their hearts out to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

It really is the beautiful game.

The NHS (National Health Service)

If I could put my finger on one thing that I am very proud of in Britain then it would be the NHS.

The NHS was born in 1948 and without doubt is the jewel in Britain’s crown. British people grow up in a country where they take for granted that health care is free for everybody regardless of their wealth or employment status and that is exactly how it should be. By having the NHS,  Britain is not only showing that everybody is equal, it is protecting it’s most vulnerable citizens.

The Beautiful Countryside

There is quite simply no where in the world more beautiful than a summers day in the British countryside.

With Britain being on the small side, you are never far from the open countryside and there are some wonderful places to visit, from the Scottish highlands and the Welsh valleys to the beautiful rolling hills of England, you certainly are rather spoilt for choice.

British People

I have many likes and dislikes regarding British people but overall they are a good bunch and generally have their hearts in the right place.

The thing I probably love most about the British people is their kind nature, not all people are like this of course but for the most part, people of this land are friendly, compassionate and caring. They don’t like seeing people treated badly and will always cheer on the underdog.

Well those are just some of the things I love about Britain, the list could of gone on and on but I think I shall leave it there for now. Don’t forget next week to look out for the Things I hate about Britain, it should be rather interesting.

How does my list compare with yours? Let me know by adding a comment below.

    Wonderful comments!
You should also have mentioned the weather. We have distinct seasons, rain quite often which gives us our beautiful green countryside & we don’t have life taking extremes. Earth tremors are very rare & earthquakes are unheard of in Britain.
So glad you wrote about the heroism of the 2nd World War generation but what of the 1st World War?
    Our history covers so much!
I don’t hate anything about Britain– I have the occasional dislike e.g. cynical people but cynics exist everywhere in the world.
I hope you won’t be writing anything naughty next week–I’ll be watching you!

I actually decided to change the title and not discuss the things I hate about Britain as I don’t really hate anything 🙂 I do have some things that I passionately dislike though 🙂

At least a couple of weeks have passed & you’ve not yet posted the things you don’t like.
    Good, nowhere is perfect !
Keep up the good work on the Blighty Traveller.
I’ve recently visited Bridgnorth in Shropshire & surrounding areas. Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Ledbury & Leominster are towns well worth visiting especially for people who like browsing in antique & junk shops.
