Summer Surprises in London

With the close of Wimbledon, summer is officially here. So far London has been blessed with some beautiful weather, including the hottest July on record – so there’s no excuse not to enjoy it while it lasts. Whether you have finished uni for the summer and want to go out, are living for the weekend after work, or you’ve got the kids off school for six glorious weeks, here are some unique and limited edition ways to make some summer memories this year.

Cuisson’s Pop-Down Dessert Bar

The perfect solution to samey post-work drinks, Cuisson’s summer dessert bar has everything you could want from Thursday-Saturday evenings in Central. The luxury gastronomy company’s chefs have between them been trained at Le Gavroche, The Fat Duck, and Adam Simmons, so you can expect some innovative Michelin star dishes that test the limits of dessert.

Rooftop Film Club

The much anticipated Rooftop Film Club is back for 2015. Having opened slightly earlier than usual in May this year, this is a 21st Century alternative to a 1950s Drive-In, screening cult classics as well as new releases on a backdrop of London’s stunning skyline. Fancy dress is not only accepted but encouraged, and plenty of blankets are provided so you’re snug as a bug as the sun sets.

Flamingo Pier

Are you having to miss out on a holiday abroad this year? It’s no matter, because Flamingo Pier is back and this year themed like a different postcard location every night. Bali, the Phillippines, and Burma are all set to be recreated with regional cuisine and inspired drinks and decor to whisk you away for the night, all from the comfort of Hackney Wick.

Festival of Love

When in doubt, spend summer at the South Bank. Aside from the Udderbelly festival (London’s alternative to the Edinburgh Fringe) there’s a temporary beach, and of course the annual Festival of Love. Enjoy something for everyone young and old, including social swing dances, a children’s gamelan workshop, a production of Shakespeare’s classic rom-com Midsummer Night’s Dream and of course, the mass wedding.

Foyles Summer Festival

Foyles’ festival of reading and fun is back for 2015 with some great events for the school holidays, including a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, a Lego workshop, and a day with the makers of Shaun the Sheep for model making. Keep an eye out for events including character meet and greets, as well as family storytelling.
